Mural Update: We’re One Step Closer to Bringing Our Vision to Life!

Hey, Shine Society!

I have some big updates on the community mural project, and y’all—I can barely contain my excitement! We are moving full steam ahead, and this is really happening. If you’ve been following along, you know that this project, in partnership with Sustainable Solano and the City of Fairfield, is all about bringing art, vibrancy, and community connection to our city. And guess what? Thanks to YOUR input, we are shaping up something truly special.

The Process: From Ideas to Sketches

A couple of weeks ago, I put out a call for feedback on what this mural should represent, and the response was incredible. We had so many thoughtful submissions, and a few themes stood out loud and clear—growth, unity, and Fairfield’s bright future. (Seriously, y’all understood the assignment!)

Taking that inspiration, I sketched up three rough design concepts that reflect these ideas. After sharing them with our partners at the City, we’re currently leaning towards Option 3—a design that embodies the idea of Fairfield’s potential blooming in full color. But before we lock it in, we’re waiting for final approval from the building owner at Select Furniture Galleries.

Next Steps: Making It Official

Once we get that green light, I’ll be digitizing and refining the final sketch to incorporate the elements you all voted for in the survey. Then, it’s time for official approval—and you know what comes after that? PAINTING!

Why This Mural Matters

Public art does so much more than just make a space look pretty (though, let’s be real, it’s about to be stunning). Studies show that murals:

• Improve walkability, making people more likely to explore and engage with their community.

• Reduce crime, creating safer, more inviting public spaces.

• Boost local pride and identity, giving residents a deeper connection to their city.

This project is all about that—bringing color, joy, and a sense of belonging to our city, and I can’t wait for all of us to see it come to life together.
